Voyager Bankruptcy, Meta-Communities & Vinci DAO

Happy July!
NOTE: Apologies for the delay. Our newsletter provider (Revue) went down over the weekend. So had to wait until it was restored before we could send this email.
Over the last week, we got accepted into Vinci (a new collective for some of the best Web3 community builders), saw crypto lender Voyager file for bankruptcy, and witnessed Reddit launch their own NFT collection via the Polygon network.
As the crypto ecosystem continues to struggle price-wise, NFT and DAO communities continue to try and find its place. Despite the doom-and-gloom, NFT in-person events are selling out, and builders are continuing build.
The next opportunity for professional community-builders will be to look beyond seed stage companies, and start looking at growth stage ones who have: (1) secured funding; (2) proven product-market fit; and (3) expressed a need to professionalize their teams or bring order to chaos. This is where ‘meta-community’ knowledge may benefit, and give you insight into what’s coming.
Speak soon,

Future of online communities is 'meta'
If you’re already past the stage of starting a community, there may come a point where it splits into multiple sub-communities. This will then produce an ‘ecosystem’ filled with various groups.
Once this occurs, the community-builder’s role is to go meta then. That is, to start looking at the relationships between communities, not just between members in a single community.
This concept is touched upon in General Stanley McChrystal’s book Team of Teams. But instead of a “team of teams” approach, a meta-community is a “community of communities” one.
Since you’re dealing with groups who aren’t formally working together, the relationships may be looser than what you may need in a team of teams scenario.
As these groups start to grow, understanding how they interact - within a future ‘metaverse’ or Web3 environment - will be vital to understanding the tools required to facilitate such relationships at scale. Knowing local laws will also be critical for such a professional.

The next biggest brands of our generation will be those that deeply understand what it means to build community. The next era of commerce is about Connecting to Consumers (C2C). Brands that get that - will succeed.
